Students jump into learning how to spot fake news by playing a round of Factitious, the game. Next, they meet in groups to share strategies that helped them while playing the game. (A sample infographic of strategies is included, too.) Third, groups of students work together to be the first team to find all four fake news items in The Canadian Infiltration Fake News Game.

Symbols include the Liberty Bell, Bald Eagle, Statue of Liberty, United States Flag, Washington Monument, and the Lincoln Memorial. Students will work in pairs and conduct research about American symbols and create a digital story about a symbol of their choosing. They will collaborate and build off others ideas and practice how to respond thoughtfully when creating discussions/posts/ comments. AccommodationsThis activity needs prior background that includes discussions about real news/fake news, what hacking truly means, and acting positive online, and digital literacy. This lesson allows for accommodations to be met through videos (close captioning) and completing commenting (recording it, using images/symbols).  Articles/videos can be done together or independently. Students will create a game to find multiples of a given factor by making a character fly into the correct multiple of the given factor. The student will go through a series of coding steps to create a background, make a character fly, and create the factor and multiple game.
