In this activity, students, working in small groups, respond to a series of questions asking them to analyze a diagram of the long-term, global average energy budgets for the atmosphere and the earth's surface (below). They then are asked to explain how the greenhouse effect works in terms of several basic physical principles applied to their analysis. Finally, they are asked to apply the same principles to the predict changes in global average atmospheric and surface temperatures as a result of adding greenhouse gases to the atmosphere.

Grocery Store Marketing Tour

A grocery store marketing tour I developed for my 10-year-old nephew after noticing that he was interested in how money (particularly buying/selling) worked. The tour took about 1 hour and then about 15-30 minutes for him to pick and purchase the items he wanted with the $10 I gave him. The information in this guide is a compilation of industry stories from primary and secondary sources. I encourage you to do your own research to confirm the accuracy of these stories.I also encourage you to use this as a guide and be ready to adapt and use different examples, different products, etc. depending on what the student is engaging with and what is available at your local grocery store.

Guest Speaker Audience Question Forms

Have you ever had a guest speaker for your classroom, and all of the students are too embarassed to ask questions? I hand out this form (2 to a page, cut them in half), and tell my students to think of questions while they are speaking. Then I collect them, they are anonymous, and I either choose from the stack or let the speaker choose which questions are best. The advantage is that I can choose questions which I feel will be of the most benefit to the class without repetition, and sift out inappropriate ones.

How to be a journalist in the 21st century.pdf

This textbook is an introduction to journalism, in the African and South African context, written for digital natives. The textbook is unique in the sense that students and the lecturer wrote it together, it is therefore a resource that focuses on learning through the eyes of students in Africa and the things they would like to learn to become journalists. The writers are Andre Gouws, lecturer in journalism at North-West University in Potchefstroom, South Africa, and his first-year and second-year students from 2021.

The purpose of this open textbook is to provide a general introduction to journalism in the 21st century to both journalism students and anyone who, perhaps unknowingly, create their own types of journalism. These new types of journalists include bloggers, entrepreneurial journalists, social media users, newsletter writers, and YouTube and TikTok creators, among others. In the digital era, journalism skills are valuable skills to anyone who creates or distributes news or information. Journalism skills include an understanding of news, the context of the media, legal and ethical issues around creating and distributing all types of content, and practical skills. This textbook contains ideas to help prospective independent journalists with journalistic entrepreneurship. Scholars agree that journalism can be defined very broadly today. It is no longer something that only trained journalists do. Knowing and understanding journalism will help everyone to tell better stories; to perhaps earn an independent income; and, importantly, to do it an ethical and compassionate way.

Long Description:
Social media and humans exist in a world of mutual influence, and humans play central roles in how this influence is mediated and transferred. Originally created by University of Arizona Information scholar Diana Daly, this Winter 2022 Edition of the book Humans R Social Media uses plain language, audio and video, embedded questions and active learning activities, and contributions by students to help readers actively understand how we as humans shape social media, and how social media shapes our world in turn. The authors and contributors examine digitally mediated identity, microcelebrity, and relationships through sociological and feminist perspectives, and visualize networked publics and online spaces using historic forms of communication. Dynamic coverage by Daly and contributors also examines the #metoo movement, Black Lives Matter, and conversations around race and radicalism. Most notably, the world of information is examined through simple explanations of algorithms, types of misinformation, and spreadable media including memes. Designed for beginning college students, Humans are Social Media offers a unique, multimedia overview of social media in relationships with users and human cultures.
