While no businesses succeed based on their architecture or space design, many fail as a result of inattention to the power of spatial relationships. This course demonstrates through live case studies with managers and architects the value of strategic space planning and decision making in relation to business needs. The course presents conceptual frameworks for thinking about architecture, communication and organizations.
This course is offered during the Sloan Innovation Period (SIP), which is a one-week period at the MIT Sloan School of Management that occurs midway through each semester.
The Area Context Model template provides a visio tool for developing a graphical representation for a an organizational / project scope enabled using technology. The template uses stick-people, rectangles, and circles to help organize information. Below are instructions for how to prepare a context diagram. This tool is useful for students who are in the introduction to information systems analysis and design, as well as for departments or teams engaged in project / departmental planning.

This Communication and Argumentation seminar is an intensive writing workshop that focuses on argumentation and communication. Students learn to write and present their ideas in cogent, persuasive arguments and other analytical frameworks. Reading and writing assignments and other exercises stress the connections between clear thinking, critical reading, and effective writing.
This resource is designed to walk students through the process of completing a research project in any field of study. It covers the earliest stages of brainstorming and discussing, continues through researching and compiling sources; writing, documenting, revising, and polishing a paper; and finally presenting the research topic to a wider audience in a professional manner. The focus is on MLA format, though the course could be modified for other formats.

An exercise assessing the water demand of New York City and population dynamics underlying that demand is provided. Visualization of first order water resource estimates using precipitation data and a known water storage volume are used to draw conclusions about drought risk and the sustainability of NYC water supplies.

The Assessment of Authentic Learning Rubric focuses on the areas of agency and authenticity, concepts derived from the Student as Producer and Social Pedagogies frameworks. The rubric consists of five areas: learning tasks, learning process, social core, learning assessments, and lifelong learning. Each of the five areas contains statements that course designers can use to evaluate their course/s. Instructors may elect to use the rubric as a self-evaluation tool or might elect to work through it with support from an instructional designer. The rubric can be used for course taught in a variety of modalities including online, hybrid, and face-to-face.

This project helps familiarize students with data commonly available from well drillers, the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, and the Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology. Such data is often used to produce consulting reports. In this exercise, students practice working with available data and writing a consulting report while working on a real project of local interest. The question involves the probability of success in drilling a large well for a new county park. Students are given various maps and are guided through the use of a statewide database that contains well logs and well data. The outcome is a written report that describes the location and general geology of the site, uses the available data to summarize the types of materials that a driller might encounter, answers the questions that the client is interested in, and identifies problems or advantages presented by the groundwater system as indicated by available data.

Lecture notes on how to allocate different types of investment in a portfolio to manage risk
This activity contains three case studies which allow students to evaluate situations that are considered when budgeting. The students will create budgets for the individuals in the cases as part of this assignment.
This activity uses mini cases to help develop some problem- solving skills in relation to budgeting. Situational analysis allows students to role play and help the person in the case figure out how to budget and deal with their financial decisions. Cases allow for students to role play in real life scenarios that they may experience in their future.
This is a full project that can be used in to meet standards around budgeting and money management. This usually takes the students about 5 hours to complete and it is very comprehensive to cover all future spending. The assignment requires the students to "screenshot" proof of items they found for their budget (and support each item with evidence). Students really enjoy this project (and adults have used it too for budgeting in real life!). Students may chose to have $0 spending on some items (pets, legal, etc.), but they should explain their reasoning for entering a zero. As well, students should enter savings into their budget (at least 10% of earnings).
This 7-week lesson plan is designed for use in clinical nursing courses. It is designed specifically for use by Nursing faculty teaching in the absence of state required patient facing clinical opportunity due to COVID restrictions. The lesson plan describes pedagogical techniques and provides video and education OER resources designed to help support the development of empathetic communication skills over 7 weeks. Refection and video debriefing techniques will be employed. Role play will culminate in the group presentation project of a brief video modeling effective therapeutic empathetic communication.
