This course will focus on issues that arise in contemporary public debate concerning matters of social justice. Topics will likely include: euthanasia, gay marriage, racism and racial profiling, free speech, hunger and global inequality. Students will be exposed to multiple points of view on the topics and will be given guidance in analyzing the moral frameworks informing opposing positions. The goal will be to provide the basis for respectful and informed discussion of matters of common moral concern.

This lesson intends to support learning about family makeup & how it impacts our lives. Relatedness or connection can take many forms when talking about family – it’s not one size fits or makes sense to all.In this lesson, participants will discuss their understanding of their family, identify/curate their family circles of connection, and how these circles impact their lives and decision-making. Understanding relationships, values, and what resonates as important is a part of practicing and engaging critical thinking skills.

Gender sensitivity means being sensitive and caring towards gender; and opposing injustice between men and women wherever it exists . It means being aware of why men and women behave differently and understanding their specific needs and concerns. It also implies understanding the implications and impact of different policies and programmes on women and men. It prepares the people to perform the role of looking at women’s issues, checking gender bias and correcting them. Hence, gender sensitisation is a slow process of changing not only the attitude of persons but also their behavioural pattern towards gender justice at every walk of life .It may change the parents’ attitude towards the educational development of their daughters and to encourage them to go for higher learning.  Gender sensitivity means a concretization strategy concerned with increasing people’s sensitivity to the implications of gender inequality and to identify the problems of gender discrimination.

This collection uses primary sources to explore the New Woman ideal. Digital Public Library of America Primary Source Sets are designed to help students develop their critical thinking skills and draw diverse material from libraries, archives, and museums across the United States. Each set includes an overview, ten to fifteen primary sources, links to related resources, and a teaching guide. These sets were created and reviewed by the teachers on the DPLA's Education Advisory Committee.

 Students will learn about what constitutes various aspects of identity, including gender identity, sexual orientation, and explore how experiences of identity can shift across different cultures. We will discuss why acknowledging gender diversity is important, ways to respect each other, and more. 

One of the things that we know is that as you go up the social ladder, you often have better access to quality education, healthcare, and other services, such as housing or good nutrition.

The goal of this module is to explore basic differences in partisanship by demographic characteristics, including age, race, income, and gender. Crosstabulation and graphs will be used.

This course is primarily a literature seminar. We will use American literature as a lens through which to examine different passing tropes. It will provide an introduction to queer, gender, and critical race theories for science and math majors. We will read such works as Running A Thousand Miles for Freedom, Incognegro, and Focault’s A History of Sexuality, to name just a few.

 In this lesson we will explore how peer pressure is related to social bullying - when someone uses their influence to harm or humiliate another person or leave them out of the group. We will use scenarios to explore some of the ways we might sometimes feel pressure to go along with our friends even when they don’t want to. We’ll talk about integrity and how to use it to help us make decisions.  And what we can do when we see, or know that someone is being bullied.

This course is an introduction to the problems of philosophy—in particular, to problems in ethics, metaphysics, theory of knowledge, and philosophy of logic, language, and science. It takes a systematic rather than historical approach. Readings come from classical and contemporary sources, but emphasis is on examination and evaluation of proposed solutions to the problems.

This seminar engages in the notion of space from various points of departure. The goal is first of all to engage in the term and secondly to examine possibilities of art, architecture within urban settings in order to produce what is your interpretation of space.

Explore where the prohibitions and permissions that occur in every day life come from, why they exist, and what gives them force. For example: food—you are only willing and able to eat a subset of the world’s edible substances. Marriage—some marriages are prohibited by law or by custom. This course addresses questions of prohibition and permission using psychological sources and literary works from ancient to modern. Texts include works by Shakespeare, Melville, Mary Rowlandson, and Anita Desai. Students give group and individual oral presentations.

We will examine current research and theory regarding the validity and utility of commonly accepted gender differences in many realms. Topics include: gender differences in cognitive abilities; the social construction of gender; developmental, family, educational and medical influences; and political and economic forces.

 In this lesson, teachers will describe how puberty prepares human bodies for the potential to reproduce as well as the process of human reproduction with the aid of a PowerPoint presentation. Teachers should review information learned last class while going through slides and questioning the students on what they recall. Teachers explain to students that all of the changes they experience during puberty are due to a new surge of hormones that both females and males experience, often differently. Teachers will also discuss the process of human reproduction by describing the steps needed to conceive a baby. The last activity has students create a diagram of the steps of conception in the right order for teachers to assess what they have retained from the lesson. All mistakes should be reviewed and corrected by the teacher, and then end the lesson with an open-discussion for question.

This course explores the ways in which various American artists view race and class as performed or performable identities. Discussions will focus on some of the following questions: What does it mean to act black, white, privileged, or underprivileged? What do these artists suggest are the implications of performing (indeed playing at or with) racial identity, ethnicity, gender, and class status? How and why are race and class status often conflated in these performances?

This lesson explains reproduction to students using a PowerPoint presentation and includes a teacher’s resource with sample definitions and language that can be used. Students then receive cards and try to arrange themselves in the correct order of a 28-day menstrual cycle showing where sperm would need to be present in order for a pregnancy to occur as well as how methods of contraception can prevent pregnancy. The homework is watching a short video about pregnancy myths and answering questions on a worksheet.

Students will explore gender expression, gender identity, sexual orientation, and gender stereotypes. Students will discuss such topics as a safe space, demonstrating respect, and making assumptions based on expression

Students will learn about respecting the gender expressions of themselves and others through short story scenarios. Students will collaborate and design alternate and respectful endings to the scenarios.
