Digital literacy refers to the effective use of digital media platforms when finding, evaluating and communicating information. This involves a variety of technical and cognitive skills and competencies. The aim of this course is to introduce three key facets of digital literacy and increase your skills and competencies in these areas.

This course is shared as an OER which can be reused, adapted or built upon for educational purposes.
This resource contains a series of 9 digital skill building assignments that were initially used in an online course of postsecondary students from a variety of disciplines. The assignments have a short description followed by an 'over to you' section, which asks students to either practice the skills or reflect on what the skills would mean for them. The assignments could be used in an online class, as a hands-on activity during a face-to-face course, or assigned for students to complete on their own time, outside of class.
The activity is designed to help students conceptualize the spatiotemporal relationships between erosion and deposition across a convex topography, which serves as a proxy for understanding rill and gully formation, knickpoint migration, valley excavation, and the interplay between sediment supply and accommodation across distributary features. The exercise utilizes simplistic flume observations and measurements to generate digital terrain models (DTMs) of generated topographies; by changing individual flume parameters between experimental runs (such as discharge, slope, and sediment type and moisture content), students are able to determine controls on sediment dispersion.
This online, shared Diigo group is an example of one strategy for collaboratively archiving, aggregating, aligning and curating open and free resources. This group was actively used from 2014-2017 to supplement another team project to curate custom CK-12 Flexbooks for all Middle School Science modules. Items were archived and shared here to be vetted for inclusion by other faculty as well as district level Science Coordinators.Some of the advantages to using Diigo in this way are as follows:
Diigo allows an extension to be easily placed directly into the Chrome or Safari browser, thereby making it handy at the very point of discovery of the resource. There is no need to copy a URL and then go elsewhere to open another tool or service for entry. In working with faculty on such projects, we have found that limiting the number of steps between discovery of a resource and its ultimate inclusion in student-facing products is valuable.
This approach also allows a very transparent running archive for the entire team, allowing your content experts to do their thing in an effective manner.
Some of the details that make this effective are the ability to comment on submitted resources, thus generating a running conversation, direct editing of submissions for accuracy and alignment, etc.
We also utilized the ability to employ a common group dictionary of tags. This is important so that tags are useful and not splintered into many such as: “7thGrade,” “7th Grade,” “Seventh Grade,” and so on.
Annotation and markup is also available right at the point of discovery, and this markup also shows clearly in the running archive of the shared group.
The service is free to use, and even the group function is free as long as the group is public-facing. In the spirit of #GoOpen, this more than fits.
All of the work can also be exported for long-term archiving if this is a need.
One key thing to note, is that we actually used state standards as tags as well. At the time, this led to the potential for a very laser-focused conversation regarding whether or not resources truly facilitated work directly on the standard, or just “in the area of the standard,” which can be a concern at times. However, these were not NGSS standards at the time, and I want that to be clear. These are all solid resources for the application, but the alignment would certainly shift when cross-walking to NGSS.

El concepto de innovación educativa resulta cada día más ambiguo e impreciso por la falta de claridad en cuanto a concretar si estamos hablando de acciones y proyectos puntuales o por el contrario nos referimos a una dinámica que se genera en el seno de la comunidad de aprendizaje. Esa es la razón clave que nos lleva a plantearnos la necesidad de indagar sobre este tema.Nuestro objetivo es contribuir a generar esa dinámica de innovación sostenible en los centros educativos de manera que desde la respuesta que cada claustro da a las necesidades del alumnado surjja la vivencia de la innovacion. Para ello ha sido muy importante construir una fundamentación teórica que da soporte a la herramienta que hemos ccreado y utilizado para la recogida de información.Resulta complicado resumir los resultados por ser una investigación centrada en la narrativa, el discuro y la identidad de cada centro en torno a la innovación, sin embargo, podemos recoger que la utilización de la rúbrica construida, nos ha permitido realizar una propuesta de rasgos que pueden ser considerados claves para la sostenibilidad de la innovación.Y, finalmente, señalar que las conclusiones significan una puerta abierta para seguir indagando sobre el tema de la innovación educativa desde la vivencia que tiene lugar en cada uno de los centros educativos.
