Genetics, otherwise known as the Science of Heredity, is the study of biological information, and how this information is stored, replicated, transmitted and used by subsequent generations. The study of genetics can be sub-divided into three main areas: Transmission Genetics, Molecular Genetics, and Population Genetics. In this Introductory text, the focus is on Transmission or Classical Genetics, which deals with the basic principles of heredity and the mechanisms by which traits are passed from one generation to the next. The work of Gregor Mendel is central to Transmission Genetics; as such, there is a discussion about the pioneering work performed by him along with Mendel’s Laws, as they pertain to inheritance. Other aspects of Classical Genetics are covered, including the relationship between chromosomes and heredity, the arrangement of genes on chromosomes, and the physical mapping of genes.

MTH 243: Emphasizes the basic concepts and techniques of probability, descriptive, and inferential statistics. Topics include describing the distribution of data graphically and numerically, standard scores, normal distribution, empirical rule, sampling distributions, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing of both one and two populations, and linear regression. Introduces appropriate technology to display and analyze data.
MTH 244: Presents an assortment of tools from inferential statistics with an emphasis on applications. Reviews the concepts of hypothesis testing and confidence intervals. Introduces probability distributions of test statistics for various inferential statistical problems. Includes Analysis of Categorical Data (Chi-Square Goodness of Fit Test), Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Nonparametric Statistics, and a brief introduction to Multiple Linear Regression. Applies the concepts and procedures with appropriate software tools for data analysis.

This fun "fortune teller" is intended to support Open Pedagogy trainings or groups activities. Colors are spelled out along the outside edge to facilitate easier use for those without access to a color printer.
The fortune teller was based on a template found at www.downloadablecootiecatchers.wordpress.com, and was inspired by the excellent OKP Learning Experience Bingo board by Nate Angell: http://xolotl.org/okp-learning-experience-bingo-2-0/
Activity instructions: 1. Select one ingredient from the OKP Learning Experience Bingo board (People, Places, Materials, etc). 2. Select a color and alternate opening one end of the device or another while spelling out the color. 3. Look at the choices of numbers that appear within the device and select one, spelling it out as you did the color. 4. From the available numbers on the open end of your fortune teller, select one and open its compartment to see which Dimension of Openness you have been assigned. 5. Brainstorm an activity or experience that exemplifies that Dimension and relates to your chosen Ingredient from the bingo board.

This document provides a template for students to design and execute a three phase project as an alternative to a default 3 phase project. Its original usage was in art, design, and game classes that devided a class quarter into 4 projects, each taking roughly two to three weeks and broken into three default phases (preproduction, revisions, and final.) Students should start by creating a copy of the example three phase project template and replacing sections with their own project-specific content. This framework pursued educational concepts such as choice-based arts education, teaching for artistic behavior, project-based learning, differentiated instruction and constructivism as natural complements to the process of open pedagogy and non-disposable assignments.

I have been teaching Human Anatomy and Physiology at Central Arziona College (CAC) for 25 years. About 3 years ago, the Dean of Academics expressed concern over the cost of the text and lab book for our 2 semester A&P classes. I volunteered to lead an appointed committee to look into OER for anantomy and physiology. The Openstax textbook quickly became the choice of the committee members. After teaching a pilot class with the Openstax textbook, all CAC 2 semester A&P classes switched over to it. We have been using it for all our A& P classes, both on campus and online, for about 1.5 years. Student feedback has been very positive.

Here you can find reading guides that were created by Montgomery College faculty for undergraduate general chemistry students to use to guide their reading of OpenStax Chemistry. These guides are closely aligned with chapters 1-11 and were designed for use in the first semester sequence of general chemistry. They can be used in a flipped-style classroom where students complete them before the lecture. Or they can be used to reinforce important topics learned in class. Each study guide has fill-in-the blank style questions, as well as links to videos where similar problems are worked through. Finally, suggested practice problems relevant to the topic of each study guide are listed at the end.
