This lesson was created by Courtney Baker as part of the Nebraska ESUCC Special Project Digital Age Skills.

Students will explore social issues that plague our society and the world to find an issue they are passionate about or are interested in learning more about.

Through a process of questioning, students will develop research questions that they will seek the answers to by conducting research of a variety of sources both in print and digital.

Students will create a blog site to share their research findings and write 8 blog posts, each focusing on answering a different question or aspect of their social issue, using evidence from credible sources. Their blogs will be published and shared with an authentic audience.

This lesson breaks down 4 different social issues starting in the 1800s; Women's Rights Movement, Civil Rights Movement, LGBTQIA+ Rights, and the Coronavirus Pandemic. From timelines to research papers, this unit structured lesson gives the students intense, creative assessments to challenge their thinking and show progression throughout the time periods given. 

This project will explore the idea of election fairness through the concept of Gerrymandering. Gerrymandering is a means of unfairly drawing district boundaries that favor one party over another.There are legal concepts and mathematical concepts that can be considered in determining the fairness of district boundaries.Objective: Students will:Explore shapes that create fair voting districts.Calculate compactness as a measure for voting fairness.Discuss the implications of using compactness to measure voting fairness.

outlets, as the industry has long relied largely on destination reputation, consumer opinion, spread of information, and positive word-of-mouth advertising. Social media plays a very important role in the tourism industry.

Research on social media in tourism is still in infancy. While case studies focusing on qualitative discussion of the impact of social media in tourism are needed, it is critical to encourage the comprehensive investigation into the influence and impact of social media on all aspects
of tourism industry, and to demonstrate the economic contribution of social media to the industry.

This activity aims to help student groups in an undergraduate macro social work course understand what a social problem is, how to reimage issues that affect a group of people, research the magnitude of the problem, and develop a workable solution. It also gives students practice experience working in groups and using TEAMS  demonstrating leadership skills as each collaborates on research and development of the social problem report.

Writing assignment in APA format. Students can select one of the 10 prompts or the instructor can assign a prompt for students to complete. Each prompt is connected to a major subject or chapter within introduction to social psychology and requires students to explore, reflect, and describe how the topic is connected to their own life and therefore important to society. 

This game is designed to test, reinforce, and enhance students' understanding of Social Security Law. I've used it in several different ways: as a game that students play in class, with a prize for the winning student or team (playing the game and discussing the correct answers takes about one hour of class time); as a closed-book quiz that students take in class, followed by discussion of the correct answers (again, about one hour of class time); and as an open-book assignment that students complete before class, followed by discussion of the correct answers in class (about 30 minutes of class time).

This is a list of essential questions about economics to use in your social studies or history class. This assignment is intended to get students to think more about toys, gender, and socialization. 

The goal is to create a process for students to learn about the decolonization movement in Social Work and apply these concepts to reimage group work. They will do this by choosing a “problem” to address using group work,
they will then research evidence based practices (EBP) or best practices (BP) for addressing their problem, then
they will explore and propose ways to decolonize the EBP or BP and complete a group proposal.
