Through the individualisation and adaptation of learning materials enabled by open education practices and the flexibility of digital resources, excluded or struggling learners can be included, to the benefit of all learners. This Commonwealth of Learning Knowledge Series paper introduces the dimensions of inclusive design as it applies to learning and focuses on the design of diverse learning experiences to help optimise learning opportunities for all learners.

Schnücker für Arbeitsstelle Hochschuldidaktik der Universität Siegen, these postcard-sized resources have been translated into English, and contextualised for Australia.

The cards are broken into Theory, Practice, Examples, and Resources, and introduce OER to new practitioners whilst also providing examples and tools for anyone to use.

This resource is used to raise staff awareness, to act as a 'ready reference' for practitioners, and as an aid for OER workshops designed to engage staff with OER in their discipline.

Persons with disabilities may be facing difficulties in reading documents created by you. Many documents contain hidden obstacles that can sometimes deny or restrict access to users with disabilities, particularly persons with blindness, low vision, color blindness, reading disabilities, and certain mobility impairments.
People with disabilities use digital documents in different ways. Some of them may want to get it Read Aloud using Text-To-Speech software, or read it on Refreshable Braille Devices, while others may want to magnify the text and change the foreground and background color to suit their visual disability. Some of your readers may be using the keyboard to navigate through your documents, while others may be using touch, voice commands, a modified mouse, Head Stylus, or even Eye Tracking technology.

According to the Clover Model of Youth Development published by the PEAR institute, a sense of belonging is one of the four essential elements that people of all ages need in order to thrive, learn, and develop. It is also a fundamental part of establishing a welcoming and inclusive learning community. This strategy provides the support needed for teachers to create and sustain such an environment, not only for the students in their classrooms, but also to represent the diversity in society.

Designing a Family Partnership Plan helps teachers to explore the assets that families bring to the table and the qualities of ideal partnerships. Learning about what it takes to develop effective partnerships will provide you with the support you need to create your own partnership plan. Strong partnerships with students' families can help teachers to optimize student achievement. This strategy will help you to assess your level of family-school partnership and provide you with the opportunity to focus on asset-based narratives as you explore critical considerations when engaging with families. Recognizing that parent involvement is a key factor in student success and considering the perspectives of your students' families about their involvement will make you a more effective partner.

This is a Bridge 21 style project during which students who are learning a target language connect with students who are native speakers in the target langauge. They collaborate to create an instructional video on a tourist destination in the target country. The project was completed in the study of Chinese language and culture but could work in any MFL classroom.

The objectives of this kit are to improve student perceptions of older adults in terms of creativity, flexibility and competence, and to broaden their understanding of what constitutes "creative" expression. Both documentary and feature films were used in order to explore the differences in intent between these different media, as well as the issues of time period, race, gender, culture and nationality.

This course provides a broad review of contemporary American crime control policies and their relationship to community needs and citizen expectations. Emphasis on the influences that politics (i.e. minority groups, advocacy groups, etc.), culture, economics and bureaucracy have on policy development.

Learning Objectives:
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:

Describe the police history, organizational and operational structures, strategies and tactics, ethics and policies, and behavior through the scope of police-community relations.
Adequately explain the complex nature of police-community relations and how it has changed throughout the years.

This kit provides teachers and other educators with the materials to help young children begin to understand the purpose of TV commercials (and advertising in general) in terms of selling intent, and to recognize the types of tricks that advertisers may use to make products look better than they really are. Specific lessons focus on foods groups and misleading nutritional messages commonly found in children's TV commercials, especially the "complete breakfast shot" and highly sugared pseudo-fruit snacks and beverages. Lessons are designed to address developmentally appropriate health standards, and many different commercials are provided so that children can discuss and practice what they have learned.
