"Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common gastrointestinal malignancies, and 40% of cases are related to mutation of the oncogene KRAS. However, no KRAS-targeting drugs are currently available for cancer treatment, and patients with KRAS mutations are insensitive to anti-EGFR therapy, which is often used for CRC. To improve treatment options, a new study tested the combined effects of the drugs artesunate and WNT974 on KRAS-mutant CRC. In vitro, the combination synergistically reduced CRC growth and decreased KRAS protein levels and activity, while inducing KRAS degradation via the ubiquitin–proteasome pathway, thereby reducing the oncogene’s influence. Specifically, the induced KRAS degradation was mediated by upregulation of ANAPC2, as well as upregulation of β-TrCP and GSK-3β. In addition, the combination treatment suppressed the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway, which is downstream of KRAS and supports tumor growth..."

Courses on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Librarianship in ALA-accredited Masters of Library and Information (MLIS) degrees are rare. We have all been surprised by ChatGPT and similar Large Language Models. Generative AI is an important new area for librarianship. It is also developing so rapidly that no one can really keep up. Those trying to produce AI courses for the MLIS degree need all the help they can get. This book is a gesture of support. It consists of about 95,000 words on the topic, with a 3-400 item bibliography.

What is the current state of artificial intelligence (AI) in the world of scholarly communication? What impact does AI have on the practices and strategies of publishers, libraries, information technology companies, and researchers? What exactly is AI and what are those in the realm of scholarly communication actually thinking about it and doing with it?

"Despite their known benefits, chemotherapy and other cancer treatments can take a toll on patients. Side effects such as hair loss, nausea, immune system suppression, fatigue, cognitive impairment, and infertility are common. The reason is that many cancer-fighting treatments target cells that quickly reproduce, which is true of cancer cells but also of other, healthy cells in the body, including blood cells and those lining the gastrointestinal tract. Is it possible to target only cancerous tissues with therapeutic drugs so that healthy organs remain unaffected? Researchers at the RIKEN Cluster for Pioneering Research in Japan are engineering molecules to do just that. The team showed that artificially designed gold-based enzymes (or metalloenzymes) can be used to guide drug delivery through a technique called selective cell tagging therapy. This unit explores the various ways information and ideas about climate change are presented through a variety of media. This includes the evaluation of social media posts, research into climate change issues, and an exploration of contemporary art and artists. This was designed and taught in an honors 9th grade English Language Arts Classroom by Dr. Tavia Quaid in response to student interest in climate change and to reinforce key information literacy skills.

This unit explores the various ways information and ideas about climate change are presented through a variety of media. This includes the evaluation of social media posts, research into climate change issues, and an exploration of contemporary art and artists. 

The Art of Arabic Calligraphy is a collection of four articles by Mamoun Sakkal, a professional calligrapher. The site explains the history of the Arabic alphabet, the history of Arabic calligraphy, and presents articles on the two largest schools of Arabic calligraphy, Kufic and cursive. Articles are informative and succinct and are accompanied by helpful charts and illustrations. The first section demonstrates all the connected and unconnected forms of the Arabic letters in the most basic script.

Although Korea's cultural connections with China and Japan form a crucial part of its history, Korea also has a visually rich and technically sophisticated artistic tradition that is separate and distinct from that of its larger East Asian neighbors.

This publication introduces Korea's artistic achievement and places it in the context of its history and religions. Works from the Museum's permanent collection form the core of the discussion and are used to illustrate the diversity and beauty of Korean art. These include Buddhist paintings, celadon wares and white porcelain vessels, inlaid lacquerwares, and traditional musical instruments. The boxed set also provides useful teaching tools for the classroom, including maps, an illustrated timeline, a chronology, a glossary, lesson plans, questioning strategies, cross-cultural comparisons, and two large posters. In addition, there are bibliographies for educators and students as well as lists of relevant websites, cultural resources, and film and video resources.

The visual narratives and abstractions of this preeminent African American artist explore the places where he lived and worked: the rural South, Pittsburgh, Harlem, and the Caribbean. Bearden's central themes: religion, jazz and blues, history, literature, and the realities of black life he endured throughout his remarkable career in watercolors, oils, and especially collages and photomontages from the 1940s through the 1980s.

A great and early civilization arose on the subcontinent of South Asia that in time spread northward to the Himalayan region and eastward to Southeast Asia, a vast area including Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Myanmar. This resource introduces works of art from this area selected from the superb South and Southeast Asian and Islamic collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Included are examples of Buddhist and Hindu temple art and the later court arts of South Asia; these range from miniature painting and luxurious textiles to elegant personal possessions. As well as descriptions of the visual qualities and symbolic meanings of the art, also provided are a summary of South and Southeast Asian history, a section about Buddhism and Hinduism, a timeline and map, classroom activities, lesson plans, a bibliography, and a glossary.
