As classroom managers, teachers regularly use commands to direct students to start and stop activities. Instructors find commands to be a crucial tool for classroom management, serving as instructional signals that help students to conform to the teacher's expectations for appropriate behaviors.

This classroom activity presents College Algebra students with a ConcepTest and a Question of the Day activity concerning the effect of the proportionality constant, k, on the y-intercept and position of an exponential graph where k>0 and C is an arbitrarily fixed value in f(x)=Ce^(kx).

In this individual research project, a senior thesis student conducts a regression analysis that investigates the effects of race, ethnicity, and poverty on high school graduation rates in Florida. The data are easily obtainable from the Florida Department of Education. The project can be modified to be a group research project in a Research Methods Class or a Special Topics Upper Level Economics class.

In this undergraduate research and service learning project, students and faculty collaborate on a study of the effects of condemned/restored homes in their college town on surrounding property values. While this example describes an experience in a small, upper-level elective course, it includes suggestions for modifications of design and learning goals for other learning levels and environments.

This is a project we created as part of our education class. In it, is a way to engage the students in the Electoral College and have them do a paper to research the topic and how it related to the United States today. Now only do they do deep thinking about their own thoughts on this topic, but can compare and contrast today's America with late 18th century America and form ideas based on these two eras. It gets the students to debate each other, while also getting to see what the Founders were thinking when they created the Electoral College and whether it applies today or not, meaning that they can study the Constitution as well, and develop thought on whether they think it should be taken liberally or more strictly.
