Librarians: This module could be used as an in-service tool to introduce teachers to technology integration, library resources and how the librarian and teacher can work together to select, implement, and assess technology to enhance student learning.

Learners will choose a common core standard that suggests using technology and/or digital sources of information and identify technology(s) that will support the standard and enhance the learning environment. The focus will be on selecting technology for the content area (TK and CK) and determine the level of SAMR addressed in the application of the technology

Learners will reflect on best practices for maximizing using technology

Learners will use a technology evaluation rubric to evaluate a technology tool selected to meet a specific learning goal.

Learners will examine the important considerations regarding ethical and safe use of technology and Internet use.

Learners will examine and evaluate the “Privacy Policy” of two educational game companies.

Learners will develop a Technology Integration Professional Development Plan that will include their areas of need and a timeline and resources (network/PLC).

This is a 4-day Set of Contextualized Digital Literacy Lessons that culminate in students writing their own letter requesting a reference. These lessons include all materials or links to materials. It was taught in a computer career class for ELLs. Students need to have basic computer and word processing skills.

This unit looks at the interplay between losses in privacy and gains in convenience that accompany the ever-expanding use of and reliance on digital media and technology in our lives. The aim is not to convince students of a specific stance; rather, it is to provide an opportunity for students to look critically at the ways in which privacy has changed and to think about taking intentional action regarding their own use of digital media.

Each week of the unit, students will grapple with an essential question that focuses their attention on one aspect of privacy. As the core text, George Orwell’s 1984 elucidates two major definitions of privacy: first, the internal thoughts that we develop and contemplate without outside influence; and second, the freedom from being observed, accessed, and controlled by outsiders.

Throughout this unit, students will produce short argumentative pieces drawing evidence from the texts read for and discussed in class. The short pieces of writing students produce throughout the class will culminate in a final argumentative essay weighing the interplay and value of privacy and convenience in our digital lives.

This lesson focuses on the concept of "fake news" and the responsibilities of news and media creators and consumers. Students will explore PEN America's News Consumers' Bill of Rights and Responsibilities and read an article about "fake news" that presents strategies on how to approach digital sources.

This resource offers the user 8 activities that encourage exploration/contemplation of:
• current UK educational practices in relation to digital literacy
• effects of digital literacy initiatives on UK’s global positioning in 2038
• educational movements that are supportive of global society concerns of sustainability.

This lesson employs the use of a quiz created on Google Forms. When these forms are linked to a website (such as a classroom website) students can access them without needing a username or password. The primary purpose of this lesson to give students experience taking an online quiz, while simultaneously reinforcing academic content. The content of this quiz is Counting Money, although the numeracy goals are secondary to the digital literacy goals.

Each student becomes an expert on a natural disaster, investigating and discovering how they can prepare for it. Students initially create traditional motivational posters using paper, pencils, markers, and crayons. Then, students create an electronic version to motivate others to prepare for natural disasters. Next, students create storyboards/scripts and digital stories on a natural disaster of their choosing to inform others of ways to prepare for natural disasters. This lesson was created as part of a collaboration between Alabama Technology in Motion and ALEX.

This lesson focuses on PEN America's News Consumers' Bill of Rights and Responsibilities. Students will read the bill of rights, rephrase some of the rights and responsibilities, and rank the rights in order of importance. Finally, students will work together to construct a short dramatic skit that shows the significance of one right of their choosing.

The digital age has created the need for a new kind of literacy-a literacy that empowers news consumers to determine whether information is credible, reliable and truthful. This is not just a skill; it is a new core competency for the 21st century. So-called “fake news” is hard to spot and spreads easily, leading to disagreements over basic facts. The antidote to the growing challenges posed by this digital revolution is news literacy. This mini news literacy course includes two three-hour sessions that will teach anyone to become a more critical consumer of news.

This lesson focuses on helping young children learn to participate in different kinds of digital communities. Students will solidify and work on what they know about being part of any community.

Students will discuss basic guidelines for maintaining privacy and security online. To help them internalize these rules, students will illustrate what it would mean to follow each guideline.

This lesson focuses on what it means to produce digital content and share information using online platforms.

SIFT is an evaluation strategy developed by digital literacy expert Michael Caulfield (Washington State University Vancouver) to help you judge whether or online content can be trusted for credible and reliable information. The SIFT strategy is quick, simple, and can be applied to various kinds of online content: social media posts, memes, statistics, videos, images, news articles, scholarly articles, etc.

Information literacy involves recognizing when information is needed and being able to locate, evaluate, and use that information effectively. We will discuss information literacy scaffolding in your syllabi, assignments, rubrics, and resources in your course.

As children use digital media with increasing frequency, advertisers who work with digital platforms continue to understand kids as an ideal target audience. Among other things, this means it is important to help children learn to read online ads sensibly and critically.
