This classroom activity for high school students uses a collection of Hubble Space Telescope images of galaxies in the Coma Cluster. Students study galaxy classification and the evolution of galaxies in dense clustered environments.

Making Evidence-Based Claims ELA/Literacy Units empower students with a critical reading and writing skill at the heart of the Common Core: making evidence-based claims about complex texts. These units are part of the Developing Core Proficiencies Program. This unit develops students' €abilities to make evidence-based claims through activities based on a close reading of the Commencement Address Steve Jobs delivered at Stanford University on June, 2005.

Communication is key in our daily lives. We need to have access to what is on our calendar – the school calendar. And yes, it’s great to have it electronically, but when there is a large group of people checking dates for an event it’s nice to have a large format for at-a-glance information. In this lesson, students will learn to create a large format 18” x 24” calendar file that could be printed and posted in a classroom to use for reference to upcoming events for the month. In our small community it has also become a public relations tool for our school and several are posted in businesses throughout our school district. Using the picture file format of the design, the calendar is also shared electronically each month for smaller print format in the community newsletter and online access.

Abstract
The purpose of the Computer Science Club is to introduce foundational computer science material to students for teachers to build off of in future courses.

Students will recognize that computer science is so important because it can be found in almost every career. Don't wait, start learning how to code today.

Elementary grade students investigate heat transfer in this activity to design and build a solar oven, then test its effectiveness using a temperature sensor. It blends the hands-on activity with digital graphing tools that allow kids to easily plot and share their data. Included in the package are illustrated procedures and extension activities. Note Requirements: This lesson requires a "VernierGo" temperature sensing device, available for ~ $40. This item is part of the Concord Consortium, a nonprofit research and development organization dedicated to transforming education through technology. The Consortium develops digital learning innovations for science, mathematics, and engineering.

This public speaking lesson focuses on presenting and conveying important information, details, facts, and opinions in a concise manner. This lesson presents several different real-world situations where students are asked to share their perspectives, experiences, and stories where they are to give supporting details and facts that are important to the context of different social interactions (talking with peers, colleagues, community, interviews, etc). With the creation of this lesson, different level options of technology integration are offered to allow for flexibility and modifications for this lesson to best serve various classrooms and their students (low tech, medium tech, and high tech options).
