In this course, you will learn about phase relations as applied to oil and/or gas reservoir processes, enhanced oil recovery, gas pipeline transportation, natural gas processing and liquefaction, and other problems in petroleum production. The primary objective of the course is to apply the thermodynamics of phase equilibrium to the framework for phase behavior modeling of petroleum fluids. The focus of the course will be on equilibrium thermodynamics and its relevance to phase behavior predictions and phase equilibrium data description. We will attempt to apply phase behavior principles to petroleum production processes of practical interest, especially natural gas condensate systems.

Physical Computing Using Arduinos: Making an LED Blink and Fade

Students download the software needed to create Arduino programs and make sure their Arduino microcontrollers work correctly. Then, they connect an LED to the Arduino and type up and upload programs to the Arduino board to 1) make the LED blink on and off and 2) make the LED fade (brighten and then dim). Throughout, students reflect on what they've accomplished by answering questions and modifying the original programs and circuits in order to achieve new outcomes. A design challenge gives students a chance to demonstrate their understanding of actuators and Arduinos; they design a functioning system using an Arduino, at least three actuators and either a buzzer or toy motor. For their designs, students sketch, create and turn in a user's manual for the system (text description, commented program, detailed hardware diagram). Numerous worksheets and handouts are provided.

In 2017 Geography went to the Pitts… (that is me…)…I learned at that time that college textbook prices were out of pace and made college that much more difficult for students to attend.

I wanted to do my part… I looked into a free online book and found Michael E. Ritter’s “The Physical Environment An Introduction to Physical Geography” free Online Educational Resource e-book.

In Summer 2020 in the midst of a pandemic I learned that Michael Ritter would be retiring his book. He was kind enough to share the source information and I decided to take it on… I hope to make changes as needed and add material but most importantly I want to keep this resource available for those of us who relied on the content for the instruction of our students.

Pioneers in Human Anatomy provides an opportunity for those who may be interested in those pioneers in anatomy or who may have learned (or forgotten) some eponymonic descriptions in the past, to test their knowledge (or memory) of these historical designations or to link particular individuals to anatomical structures and features previously unknown. While students and teachers of anatomy may might have a professional interest in knowing who, in the history of anatomy, has been associated with a particular structure, others including medical historians, biographers and medical artist might also find this information of interest. This collection of free-answer quiz questions is divided into three sections. In the first section a brief description of an anatomical structure, feature, tissue, cell or pathway is presented followed by a blank line in which the reader may insert the name(s) of the individual(s) commonly associated with that structure, feature, tissue or pathway. The descriptions and individuals included here are limited to those associated with the four traditional sub-disciplines of anatomy: gross anatomy, neuroanatomy, microscopic anatomy and developmental anatomy. Within these major anatomical subdisciplines, the descriptions are further categorized to better organize the material. Some eponyms have come into the literature because that individual was the first to report on a particular topic (aqueduct of Sylvius) or may have provided the most definitive description of the topic (Parkinson disease). Others recognize the committed effort or discovery of a single individual (islets of Langerhan) while others signify the combined or collaborative efforts of two or more dedicated persons (Marchiafava-Bignami disease). Some refer to normal structures (Hunter’s canal) or functions (Starling’s law), while many others relate to abnormal observations (Babinski sign). Countless numbers are associated with diseases (Tay-Sachs disease) or injuries (Colle’s fracture), procedures for evaluating functions (McMurray’s test) or techniques for treating specific disease or injuries (Epply maneuver). Eponymonic designations are used to identify tools and surgical instruments invented for particular purposes (Kerrison Rongeur) and surgical procedures (Whipple procedure). Some eponyms are associated with other, frequently more descriptive terms (Poupart’s ligament / inguinal ligament) while others indicate structures, processes or procedures for which no other name exists (McBurney’s point). As can be appreciated from this brief synopsis, eponyms are well ingrained into almost all facets of medicine.

It uses applications similar to social media, where a student can begin articulating positive traits about a classmate and about themselves. The Kahoot activity allows students to be more competitive and earn experience points that can be used as currency to purchase various treats in the classroom. Short Description:
The practice of adding either OER or no-cost/low-cost materials designators in course schedules is on the rise, aiming to give more visibility and transparency to students and administrators as to which courses offer these more affordable options. Few formal reports have been published on the implementation and impact of OER/No Cost/Low Cost designations integrated into course schedules at colleges and universities. This booklet aims to lessen the literature gap by providing written accounts of the course marking drivers, implementation strategies, challenges, and lessons learned presented by panelists at the 16th Annual Open Education Conference in Phoenix, Arizona, in October 2019.
