This book begins with a discussion of key concepts we think will help readers understand the assignments included. We see the chapters exploring key concepts connecting diversity and inclusion work to faculty-centered spaces to support student-centered learning space design. Most of the chapters share an inclusive assignment or inclusive practice for readers to adapt and adopt into their own learning spaces. This books is designed to support teachers implementing inclusive practices in their learning spaces.
We invite readers to consider how our definitions support and expand the work of diversity and inclusion offices at their own institutions. We invite readers to consider how our definitions help them use and/or remix the inclusive assignments shared to further their inclusive excellence work.

As educators, we want all of our students to succeed, and the Inclusive Scorecard I provides a user-friendly tool to help achieve that goal. This 11-point checklist helps you identify design issues that unintentionally hamper the learning of disadvantaged students and/or students of color. Designed for higher education courses, the Scorecard draws from the venerable instructional-design practice of learner analysis. The Scorecard provides clear direction for creating a welcoming learning environment in which every student has an equitable opportunity to succeed. Designed for online courses, most of the Scorecard principles also apply to materials that faculty use in face-to-face classrooms.

Journal article abstract: With the help of academic search engine optimization (ASEO), publications can more easily be found in academic search engines and databases. Authors can improve the ranking of their publications by adjusting titles, keywords and abstracts. Carefully considered wording makes publications easier to find and, ideally, cited more often. This article is meant to support authors in making their scholarly publications more visible. It provides basic information on ranking mechanisms as well as tips and tricks on how to improve the findability of scholarly publications while also pointing out the limits of optimization. This article, authored by three scholarly communications librarians, draws on their experience of hosting journals, providing workshops for researchers and individual publication support, as well as on their investigations of the ranking algorithms of search engines and databases.

Deb Baker created this after consulting with faculty, librarians, and colleagues from around the country. The idea was to create a practical tool for assessing information literacy that anyone could use, was easy to norm, and focused on what students could do and where research instruction could be improved to increase students' information literacy. This rubric can help improve student success and information literacy learning outcomes in research assignments for any course. Used early in the semester it can serve as a diagnostic tool for supporting student researchers in developing the skills and habits of mind needed to successfully find and use information to answer a question, support a thesis, or solve a problem. Students could even use it to self-assess.

Long Description: The authors of these chapters are faculty and instructors from the University of Minnesota System whose proposals to pursue innovative undergraduate teaching and learning at the course or curricular level were awarded grants through the Provost’s “Experiments in Learning Innovations” or “Digital Technology” initiatives. Working within teams that included teaching and technology consultants, each project engaged in formative design and research across 12 to 18 months, with several teams opting to contribute a scholarship of learning and teaching chapter for this monograph.
Collectively, the authors in this volume demonstrate a commitment to on-going responsiveness to challenges, and a desire to incorporate opportunities made available by technological developments. Many authors also reflect on the ways that relationships between teachers and their students, as well as between teachers in and beyond one’s home department, are critically important in fostering student learning.
Readers – including future faculty, as well as current instructors, faculty, administrators, regents and legislators – will benefit from this collection of articles for their attention to learners, complex learning, practicable pedagogy, and curricular experimentation.

There seems to be little resistance to the idea that children and teens learn in public library spaces. However, many public librarians do not see themselves as teachers. This implies that much of the learning that happens in public libraries is incidental—tangential to the “real” purpose and design of these spaces and programs.
In this book, we make the case that public librarians should embrace an explicit instructional role as a core part of their professional practice. Inside, you’ll find both a comprehensive review of what is known so far about instruction for youth in public libraries and a primer on core educational concepts and frameworks for current and future public librarians. Each chapter includes real-world examples of libraries and librarians who are already practicing powerful teaching.
We hope that this text will inspire a new group of students, practitioners, and researchers to expand on our ideas, create innovative forms of teaching and learning that are unique to public libraries, and engage all children and teens in powerful and meaningful learning experiences.

This module is designed to support instructors in creating a culture of academic integrity in their courses at the University of Oregon. Students learn best when we develop a shared understanding of what academic integrity is, how to support it, and what university resources we can draw on together. Instructors are encouraged to import and adapt the module to suit their teaching needs, including adding disciplinary customizations.
