Engaging lesson for 7-12 students to learn and celebrate the contribution of Native Americans to Rock & Roll History.  Lesson to be used for 7-12 during Native American Heritage Month.  Nebraska Fine Arts Standard:   FA 12.4.3.d  & FA 8.4.3.d  Connect music to historical and cultural contexts, the arts (glossary), other disciplines, and life experience through responding.

In this six song collection, students will learn and perform New Orleans music on the recorder. Select from a solo version, solo with note names version, and/or a duet version.

Preservation Hall Lessons is designed for all K-12 teachers or educational professionals that want to foster the culture and history of New Orleans music genres. This site offers a sampling of traditional Omaha Indian music. The sound recordings include wax cylinder recordings made in the 1890s, as well as songs and spoken-word segments from the 1983 Omaha harvest celebration pow-wow, segments from an interview with an Omaha elder in 1983, songs and speeches from a performance by members of the Hethu'shka Society in 1985, and portions of an interview with an Omaha musician in 1999. Photos, fieldnotes, and more from the 1983 pow-wow are included.

Original Études for the Developing Conductor is a collection of supplemental études designed to enhance contemporary conducting pedagogy by amplifying the voices of composers from historically excluded groups. Each étude was commissioned from and composed by a living composer, the majority of whom are woman-identifying composers and/or composers of color. Each étude also addresses multiple specific pedagogical goals common to all conducting classrooms.

Conducting textbooks commonly include musical examples to expose student conductors to various musical challenges and situations. However, due to the relative ease of using only music from the public domain, most examples found in commercially published books are excerpts of larger works composed by deceased cisgender white men of European descent. Often, this music bears little relation to a significant portion of the music contemporary students engage with and perform. These excerpts also tend to be quite short (i.e., less than a minute) and do not create cohesive, self-contained musical arcs.

LA Buckner and Nahre Sol explore the history of how pitch shifting has been used in music for artistic results, from Alvin and the Chipmunks to T-Pain.

Students explore augmented reality audio through the design and evaluation of prototypes. Participants will probe design space and illuminate creative possibilities. This includes productive, playful, and social applications, as well as the intersection between games and music. The course builds understanding of the limitations and strengths of iterative design and rapid prototyping as research methods, familiarizes students with the theoretical foundations of design exploration, and practices working with physical and digital materials.

This activity includes the social structure of the United States during the War in Vietnam. Specifically, this activity focuses on how pop music influenced culture in the war effort at home and abroad. This is a part of standard 7.7 for HS United States History. Driving Q: Vietnam was a time in America with great social unrest among youth, adults, the government, and everyone in between. With the rising conflicts of the time, music became a prominent aspect of expression. Protest songs crowded the Billboard charts and the record stores. What effect did pop music have on the Vietnam War? - This question causes students to go on an in depth journey to the past to discover music, history, and the effect it had on America. This is relevant because it focuses on social unrest in Vietnam Era America which tackles standard 7.7. This question is entirely based on the amount of research and the side that the students take on the topic, therefore the students could all have different answers. As a teacher I always like to go "full circle" with what we learned in class for the day. So in terms of the driving question, I would ask at the beginning of class What effect did pop music have on the Vietnam War? and then reiterate the question at the end of class. This allows the students to have the question in mind while we go through the whole lesson, so by the end they have complete and well developed thoughts on the topic at hand. Grabber: I would open with Robin Williams yelling “GOOOOOOD MORNING VIETNAM!” Then I would play a quick video of samples capturing the music made during Vietnam War. This grabber hooks the learner because of the relationship most stuents aleady have with Robin Williams as an actor and with the music being played. The grabber conjures up a natural engagement from the students by using a high emotion situation with the booming voice of Robin Williams and the visual and audible factors in the video that draw in the audience. This is authentic and relevant because the students will often pay more attention to a lesson if they can connect with the task. The clip from the movie revolves around the whole topic of music during Vietnam because Robin Williams' character portrays a radio DJ stationed in Vietnam during the war. The videos and sounds will be straight from the vietnam era making them authentic. Mumkin offers practice materials for learners who are at a beginning, intermediate, and advanced level. Materials are grouped by difficulty level, and consists of videos in Arabic daily life followed by comprehension questions in the form of multiple choice or fill in the blank questions.
