Increasingly, public agencies are adopting models of self-assessment in which administrative data are used to guide and then continuously evaluate the implementation of programs and policies. In California, public child welfare agencies track performance outcomes spanning a range of child safety, permanency, and well-being domains, as dictated by federal and state mandates. This curriculum has been designed to provide Title IV-E and others students interested in public child welfare systems with an overview of the state’s Child Welfare Outcomes and Accountability System. Students will be provided with hands-on opportunities to become experienced and “statistically literate” users of aggregate, public child welfare data from the state’s administrative child welfare system, attending to the often missing link between data/research and practice. This curriculum is organized into five teaching modules, providing instructors with student learning activities, PowerPoint slide presentations, and other materials to support graduate IV-E students in the development of practical data analysis skills. Materials focus on publicly available data hosted through the Child Welfare Indicators Project at the University of California at Berkeley, a long-standing agency/university data partnership: http://cssr.berkeley.edu/ucb_childwelfare. CalSWEC funding for the development of this curriculum was provided to the Child Welfare Performance Indicators Project. Modules were developed to support instructors of both first- and second-year MSW research courses. Module objectives include: (a) to support student (and instructor) understanding of California's child welfare system performance goals and progress to date; (b) to develop students who have highly desirable (and practical) data analysis skills, including the ability to intelligibly distill and present numerical findings; and (c) to prepare a cohort of IV-E MSW students equipped to adopt leadership roles in county child welfare agencies, bringing with them an appreciation for how data can be used to improve practice and inform policies. Putnam-Hornstein, E., Needell, B., Lery, B., King, B., & Weigmann, W. This module is part of the Foundations of School Librarianship on using web resources to enhance learning and build collections. It describes a process by which the school librarian and teacher will collaborate on a high school-level project to explore how researchers are using social media to promote and distribute their research findings. This presents a great opportunity for science teachers and school librarians to tap into high school students' enthusiasm for social media in a constructive and educational way. It also provides opportunities for school librarians to collaborate with teachers on developing or enhancing students information evaluation skills. And finally, the days of speaking of collection development as a library activity that means adding physical volumes to the collection may be over. Rather, we speak of developing access to quality resources that enhance learning. Social media sites that provide free access to quality research data supports the concept of promoting Open Educational Resources (OERs).

This Remote Learning Plan was created by Joanna Pruitt as part of the 2020 ESU-NDE Remote Learning Plan Project. Educators worked with coaches to create Remote Learning Plans as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.The attached Remote Learning Plan is designed for Grades 9-12 English Language Arts students. Students will learn the research process and how to write a research paper. It is expected that this Remote Learning Plan will take students 4-5 weeks to complete.

What isn’t creative is the form you use. The paper will get you ready for the form and process of your first research paper by allowing you to practice and/or review APA format and structure. You’ll practice formatting the paper following APA guidelines, using parenthetical citations, providing an alphabetized reference page, and integrating quotes correctly.

Weekly Objectives:

Week 1 Objective: Students will recognize how social, cultural, and personal identities shape perceptions of the course content and projects, and they will evaluate research guides to prepare for the first project.

Week 2 Objective: Students will evaluate sample research guides together as the first step to creating their own pages in the guide. They will also evaluate sources and produce annotations for those sources.

Week 3 Objective: Students will apply what they have learned about interviewing and from their research to create interview questions for the documentary. They will also construct a draft of their research guide page.

This activity helps students evaluate their own authority on a particular subject so that they can begin to understand how authority is created and effectively evaluate the authority of other sources they encounter. Additional evaluation criteria is also introduced.

Combining Gigapan Technology with the power of G-Suite, photos of local monuments are uploaded to our site, serving as the foundation bringing students closer to local Veterans while encouraging community involvement in our curriculum.

The growing number of electronics that are becoming obsolete is staggering. The responsible disposal of these materials remains to be a highly debated topic and is one that does not have an easy answer. In this problem-based learning module, students will research this growing issue and provide them opportunities to determine what actions to take. Students will then take their findings and use their research data as evidence to support their position. Groups will create a finished product in the form of a speech, radio broadcast, presentation or persuasive essay to help solve this problem.
