In this lesson students will complete guided notes while learning about the earth's seasons. Students will learn to describe the relationship between the tilt of Earth's axis and its yearly orbit around the sun.

In this lesson designed to enhance literacy skills, students examine the nutritional content of different foods and learn about the health benefits and risks associated with the food choices they make.

The Purdue Online Writing Lab is a lab at Purdue that I have been using for over 20 years as a resource to help my students with writing organization, MLA formatting, citation, and even grammar. This is a youtube channel specific to the lab and writing. These are open and available on youtube.

These are oriented towards upper level high school students and college/university students.

In this project-based learning unit, students take responsibility for their learning through active, hands-on engagement, while the teacher acts as a facilitator.  Students will learn about ocean garbage patches, the cause, its impact, recycling, and solutions to reduce them. Students will share what they learned to help raise awareness of this environmental issue and promote recycling by creating posters for their school and writing scripts to be read during morning announcements. This project requires background knowledge and understanding of the water cycle and the importance of the ocean to the water cycle.  Students should know how to use email and some digital format for presentations.

This lesson combines Oedipus the King and Aristotle's Poetics. Students will look at both pieces and write an argumentative essay as their assessment.

Context in some pieces of literature make or break the book. Though Of Mice and Men seems easy to read, the basis for the world of broken workers in a the broken world of The Great Depression is alien to the students of today who text, watch TV and drive cars to their High School Class. There are still poor in America, extremely poor, yet the majority of kids today have so much more than what the majority had during the Great Depression. The students' job is to present the daily life of the Depression from a common person’s point of view.

This uses the video, Small Group Writing, as a basis for a reflection essay for Of Mice and Men.

This lesson is the first of three career presentations for 9th-10th graders.  It includes an interest inventory, skills assessment, and values inventory to help students choose three possible careers.  The results of these inventories are to be placed in an ePortfolio and shared with classmates.  Each student is to comment on three of their classmates' ePortfolio. 

Overview:  The main purpose of this course is to enable the students to improve their knowledge of academic writing, specifically the move-step framework of different sections of a systematic review article. More specifically, in this course, you will learn what to write in different sections of the article; what expressions, vocabularies, and connectors to use for each section; and in general, you can improve your knowledge of academic writing required for writing a scientific article. 

Students will use the outdoor space to generate opinions and facts about the space which they will use to write about how the space should be used.

This board game combines practicing conversational English for adult ESL students with using the various purposes for oral communication (informing, entertaining, persuading, and honoring/inspiring). It will also develop foundational reading comprehension skills through game participation and will develop professional communication and interpersonal skills by allowing discussion of different social subjects that students could encounter in daily life, academic, and career situations.
